About the park...
Altitude : 600-900 m above sea level
Situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the picturesque Kanha National Park was the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's unforgettable classic Jungle Book and the character MOGLI.
The park was created in 1955 by a special law and, since then, it has dedicated itself in preserving a variety of animal species. Many endangered species have indeed been saved here. Today Kanha is among the few most scenic and beautiful wildlife reserves in Asia. This "Tiger Country" is the ideal home for both predator and prey.
By far the most striking features of the park are the open grassy meadows, where sighting blackbuck, swamp deer, sambhar and chital is common. And, if one can transcend into time, a barefooted Mogli would perhaps come padding along the dusty trail, for this is the land of Kipling's Jungle Book.
Located in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh, Kanha national park cum Tiger reserve extends over an area of over 1,940-sq-kms. The major feature of this region's interesting topography is the horseshoe shape valley and the whole park area is surrounded by the spurs of the Mekal. The Surpan River meanders through Kanha's central Maidans, grasslands that cover the extensive plateau. Steep rocky escrapments along the edges offer breathtaking views of the valley.
Major Wildlife Attractions Of KanhaThe main wildlife attractions in the park are tiger, bison, gaur, sambhar, chital, more pictures.... barasingha, barking deer, black deer, black buck, chousingha, nilgai, mouse deer, sloth bear, jackal fox, porcupine, hyena, jungle cat, python, pea fowl, hare, monkey, mongoose, tiger, and leopard.
The birds species in the park include storks, teals, pintails, pond herons, egrets, peacock, pea fowl, jungle fowl, spur fowl, partridges, quails, ring doves, spotted parakeets, green pigeons, rock pigeons, cuckoos, papihas, rollers, bee-eater, hoopoes, drongos, warblers, kingfishers, woodpeckers, finches, orioles, owls, and fly catchers.
There is a museum at Kanha depicting attributes and activities of the park and tribal culture. It is closed every Wednesday.

We (team of 6 ppl - Abhishek, Ateet, Dhruv, Ram, Vinay and Myself) started our journey from SPJain, Andheri(W) on 25th night. Our train journey starts from Kurla terminus to Gondiya(via Nagpur). From there we took a bus to a place near kanha and then a Cab to Kanha National park.
We booked a resort (named Mogli) for 3 days stay (which includes Breakfast, lunch and dinner and 5 safari’s to kanha national park).

Day 1:
We started our journey to Kanha National Park as early as 6:30 am and the weather was freezing cold. The weather usually ranges from freezing cold in the morning to scorching hot in the afternoon. Since it is our first visit we were excited even to see a deer, but soon we realised that it is easy to spot one in the park. The safari was in a open jeep arranged by the resort itself, they will also pack breakfast etc. First safari was spent in exploring the forest and also seeing various kinds of deers, birds etc. We reached resort for lunch and also for 2 hrs of sleep.
Cottage room & Day 1 Morning Started our second round of safari at 2:30 pm and it is just another normal safari, but we couldn’t found any tigers (As park is famous for tigers).
Day 1 Afternoon
To say in short, people visit Kahna park mainly to see Tigers and Leopards. So if you find a crowded place inside a park , it should either be a tiger or leopard.

We spent the whole night till 1 am playing “Stock exchange” game, an interesting and different game
Day 2:
It was just an another normal day like first day expect that in the evening safari we waited for around 2 hrs to see a tiger at a particular place. Seems the guide was experienced, so he was sure of the particular spot where we waited till tiger appeared. The tiger was hidden in a bush, infact resting for a long time which we failed to notice.
Day 2 & Elephant Chase
Apart from this, we were also being chased by Elephants (whole family, mother, father and their child) for a short distance till we rushed away from it.
Day 2:
It was just an another normal day like first day expect that in the evening safari we waited for around 2 hrs to see a tiger at a particular place. Seems the guide was experienced, so he was sure of the particular spot where we waited till tiger appeared. The tiger was hidden in a bush, infact resting for a long time which we failed to notice.
The night was spent in playing “Trump” card game.
Day 3:
To say it is an unforgettable day as we had a chance to see tiger, leopard and elephant very closely. We booked for Elephant safari, which will take us near the tiger. But due to tiger movement from once place to another place in a short span of time, the plan didn’t materialize.
Day 3 & At Museum
We also saw an Leopard that was sitting on a rock for almost 3 - 4 hrs. After the visit to the park one wonder about the natures way of creation, like the patterns on animals to disguise from enemies, their feet structures (eg. cushions at the paw of tiger to walk without a sound etc).. If one wants to know more about these in details, there is museum near the cafeteria and it is a must visit place in kanha.
As usual we reached Mogli resort and had nice and final lunch. Packed all of our belongings and left the cottage at appropriate time. We spent some time in a small hotel for coffee and tea where we met a kid who had 10 rabbits with him, We also spent some time playing with rabbits. Fortunately we got a bus to gondiya and reached there on time for train. We reached Mumbai on next day 29th afternoon.

The whole journey was awesome and definitely it is one of the best place to visit. 5 safari is overdose to us, so if anyone wanna visit kanha national park opt for 3 safari package which most of the resort offers. You can also enquire and book the package online itself. For us the totally journey costs around 7.5k per person.
The climate of this region is tropical. Summers are hot and humid with a maximum and minimum temperature of 40.6°C and 23.9°C. Winters are pleasant with an average maximum and minimum temperature of 23.9°C and 11.1°C, respectively. The annual average rainfall is 152 cm. The park is closed from July to mid-November during monsoon.
